Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 28: The state's renowned surgeon Dr. Muneer Khan has won the prestigious Bharat Shiromani Award for the year 2008-2009 in his field of activity. The selection for the awards is made by a jury, made-up of eminent Indians. "I am pleased to inform you that the Selection Committee has selected your name for the Bharat Shiromani Award for the Year 2008-2009 in your chosen field of activities," Jagmohan Singh, the secretary general of the Shiromani Institute has communicated to Dr. Khan in a letter. The awards will be presented on September 30, 2009 in New Delhi to the selected Indians and the People of Indian Origin for their outstanding achievements and excellence in their chosen field of activities. "It is a great honour. I am thankful to the jury," Dr. Khan said, adding he would be leaving for Delhi soon to receive the award. The Award is being given in different categories like Armed Forces, Information Technologies, Medical, Education, Judiciary, Science, Banking, Politics, Public Sector, Services, Social Work, Journalism, Cinema, Fashion, Sports, Arts & Culture, Business, Industry and any other recognized category. The Awards have a rare tradition of being presented by some of the highest placed dignitaries like Giani Zail Singh, Shankar Dayal Sharma, Arjun Singh, L. K. Advani and I. K. Gujral. The Shiromani Institute is a Non Profit NGO founded in 1977 by prominent People of Indian Origin to honour Indian achievers and Resident and Non Resident Indians with Bharat Shiromani Awards - a gesture of popular recognition of their outstanding achievements in their chosen field.
