Early Times Report
Jammu Sept 28
Member BJP National Executive & former State President Dr Nirmal Singh, conducted 3-day extensive tour of different areas of eartwhile Doda district and said the people have now started realising that unity among all the sections and communities is imperative to get for Jammu what is due.
Addressing media persons at party headquarters, alongwith State General Secretary Bali Bhagat, Dr. Singh, said that Jammu province is spread over a very large area with very poor means of communication and in most of the parts the people still depend on the information rather misinformation provided to them by number of intellectuals, leaders of students and social organizations and prominent figures of all the faiths in Kishtwar, Bhadewah, Doda and Ramban and presented true picture before them.
‘All of them, with one voice said that the time has come when the people should come together to defeat the anti-Jammu forces and their policies which have always unreasonably favoured Valley and treated Jammu as its colony, Dr Singh said.
Dr Singh said the people of Jammu have registered one more success over the Kashmiri dominance by forcing Central government to set up Central University in Jammu but asked the people to ponder as to why they have to come on roads again and again and sacrifice precious lives for very small thinks. It is not for the first time that the Jammuites had to agitate to get what it deserves. ‘It was in the year 1969 when the people of Jammu had to sacrifice four lives to get Jammu University. Not only this, the People of Kishtwar had to sacrifice four lives while agitating for grant of District status, he said adding that discrimination in the government jobs, admissions in professional and technical institutions, is being systematically perpetuated against Jammu.

Highlighting political discrimination he said the valley with a total area of 16,000 sq. kms sends 46 MLAs to the assembly while erstwhile Doda district having 10,000 sq. kms area sends only 6 MLAs.
Bali Bhagat, on this occasion, said that during the 19 years militancy, the SPOs have rendered splendid services but are not paid adequately. He demanded enhancement in salaries of SPOs and ex-Servicemen to that of regular constables of the police.
