| Special squads to monitor overcharging, adulteration and safety measures | | |

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 29
-The district administration Jammu is bracing up to take series of measures to ensure safe festival of lights, Dipawali by putting in place close market, security and safety regulations through special squads involving officials of departments having jurisdiction in the concerned areas, besides prohibiting the sale of crackers at places other than identified by the administration .
Besides two main locations at Parade Ground Jammu and Aspsara Ground at Gandhinagar, eight other places with permission of putting up less than ten stalls have been notified for the sale of crackers across Jammu city. Many first time measures would be put in place to ensure safety of life and property including provisions for quick rescue and medical care in case of any eventuality.
The arrangements were discussed threadbare at a meeting attended by civil and police officers with District Development Commissioner M K Diwedi in the chair.
It was decided at the meeting that mobile medical teams would be deployed at all major cracker sale centers, and provisions at all hospitals to handle accidental burn cases.
DDC issued special instructions to Fire Services Department to deploy man and machinery at all major cracker sale centers well in advance. He also asked them to be prepared for reaching out to places congested areas in case of any untoward incident.
DDC laid great stress on the regulation of sale of crackers and asked police department to check unauthorized sale and storage, particularly in congested areas. He said safety of life and property should be prime concern for all the regulating agencies.
DDC also directed for awareness campaign through print and electronics media educating people about precautions to be taken to avoid any mishap while bursting crackers.
The administration has also constituted various special squads to check overcharging, adulteration by shopkeepers, violation of restrictions on the sale and storage for crackers etc.
