| Probe in Rs 98 lakh JKTDC wall collapse | | | CHAMAN KAUL Jammu, Sep 29: The Government has ordered a probe into the sudden collapse of a wall of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation complex at Tourist Reception Center here. The wall involving a cost of Rs. 98 lakhs was constructed only two years back. Taking serious note of the haphazard working of the construction agency the Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora has issued orders for a thorough probe to pinpoint the responsibility. The Minister said ‘orders for a thorough probe have been ordered and the engineering division would be wholly and solely responsible for the damages’ if found guilty. He maintained that several measures are being taken to renovate all the tourist places in Jammu region on war footing to attract more and more tourists. Out of almost all the tourist spots in Jammu region, the TRC at the busy Residency Road is frequently visited by a large number of tourists. Being epicenter for every tour and travel lover in terms of transport, boarding and lodging, tourists preferably visit the spot. But it sends shivers when one listens that wall of main building, constructed a year ago, collapsed just couple of days before without any natural ambiance or technical fault. Sources informed Early Times that tenders for renovation and repairs of the building were floated in year 2004 and after two long years work started after doing required home work, which provides space to think about the reason of incident. Meanwhile, during his visit to premises on Monday, Jora stressed upon all members of management and staff for developing customer friendly environment besides paying neat, clean and prompt services to worthy customers. It is pertinent to mention that work on the project was started during the tenure of then Managing Director Abdul Aziz Wani. It may be recalled that the building which also houses the ‘Wazwan Restaurant’ has been shifted to vegetarian compartment and the services being extended through vegetarian kitchen is causing inconvenience to the customers especially to the vegetarians who prefer to remain out of the reach of the Restaurant thus causing great loss to the JKTC.
