| Police official sentenced to 4 yrs RI | | | Early Times Report Jammu,Sept 30- After ten years of trial the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir today convicted Mohammad Afzal Khan, Head Constable then posted in District Special Branch Srinagar for commission of offence U/S 5(2) P.C Act and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years and fine of Rs.20, 000. In case of default in payment of fine, accused shall undergo further simple imprisonment for a period of six months. He was also convicted for commission of offence under section 420-RPC and sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs.20, 000. In case of default of fine, accused shall undergo further simple imprisonment for a period of six months. However, all the sentences shall run concurrently. The Court also ordered that Rs.4000 each to be paid to Zaina and Ghulam Mohi-Din complainants of the case from the fine realized from the convicted official. Case FIR No.65/1998 P/S VOK was registered on July 1, 1998 following a complaint by Ghulam Mohi-din Bhat and others alleging that accused demanded and accepted illegal gratification of Rs.9650 for getting their children appointed in Police Department. After completing the investigation the challan of the case was produced in the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir on February 22, 1999.
