| Striking J&K Home Guards call off 51day long strike | | Prakash Singh serves ultimatum to Govt; concede demands or face ‘do or die battle’ | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 30 The Jammu and Kashmir Home Guards who were on strike for the last 51 days in support of their demands today called off their agitation on the assurance of National Chairman of All India Home Guards Association Thakur Prakash Singh. He offered glass of juice to Kamla Sharma leading the 51 day long protest outside the office of the Divisional Commissioner here today. Thakur, after holding comprehensive meeting with the Divisional Commissioner Dr Pawan Kotwal, urged the state wing of the Home guards welfare association to call off their stir. Later interacting with the media persons Singh said that ‘Divisional Commissioner on Tuesday assured him that all the demands raised by the home guards welfare association were under active consideration of the state government and final decision would be taken soon’. Thakur claimed that several state cabinet ministers have also assured settlement of their long pending demands. He said that a decision has been taken by the government to send home guards on six week long training from October 5. He said that if their demands were not met till November 15 All India Home guards association would also organize stir in National capital to fight for their rights. He also served a clear warning to the state government to fulfill all the commitments made to the striking home guards else they will start a 'do or die' agitation after November 15, 2009
