| Walnut to be exempted from VAT | | | Srinagar, October 1 The Central Government has ignaled a go ahead to the State Government for exempting walnut from VAT (Value Added Tax). Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Qarrah while disclosing this to KNS revealed that the issue of exempting walnut from VAT was taken up by him during a meeting of all state finance ministers held in Delhi on September 24, this year. The Central Government was represented by a senior official of the rank and status of Secretary to Government of India during the meeting. He also said that exemption from VAT in case of rice, pulses and edible oil has been also extended for Jammu & Kashmir state till 2007. The Central Government signaled go ahead to State Government few days back. The exemption of VAT on walnut will, according to Finance Minister, boost the walnut trade in valley.
