| Tarigami urges Indo-Pak to resume stalled peace process | | | Early Times Report Srinagar Sept 30- Urging Indo-Pak governments to resume stalled peace process and resolve all outstanding issues in the interest of peace and stability of the entire sub-continent and Jammu and Kashmir in particular, CPI(M) leader M Y Tarimari has said that the process should not be let to go backburner because of isolated incidents of violence. Addressing a conference of Kissan Tehrik at Anantnag today Tarigami said people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially peasantry are hit the most by Indo-Pak hostility and turmoil in the state. Cautioning that stalled Indo-Pak peace process has dangerous implications for the whole region, Tarigami said the downturn in the peace momentum will help thrive vested interests and extremist forces only CPI (M) state Secretary urged all the leaders irrespective of their ideological and political affiliations to put up joint efforts for ending every shade of violence in the state and poll efforts for bringing peace in the state. He said that violence in any form proves totally counterproductive harming the cause of people Tarigami urged for taking serious initiative to implement state-centric CBMs recommended by Working Group after thorough deliberations in Round Table conferences. He said no headway has been made towards revocation of AFSPA and reduction of troops in the state and made a strong appeal to the central government for repealing AFSPA and cut in the disproportionate presence of armed forces. Inaugurating the conference, the State General Secretary of Kissan Tehreek, Malik Ghulam Nabi enumerated the problems confronting the Kissans and workers of the State and appealed the Government to take concrete measures to stable the economy of the peasants who are hit by natural calamities and have suffered due to global economic recession. He said that agriculture sector which was engaging 49% of work force and 70% of population being dependent on it can not be ignored and demanded introduction of crop insurance scheme. The veteran leader of All India Workers Union, Suneet Chopra, who was chief guest on the occasion, said that prevalent faulty system is making growers of food grains hungry and those building mansions as shelter less. He urged peasants to unite and fight for their rights and fulfillment of just demands. He demanded minimum support price and export subsidy for the farmers’ produce of Jammu and Kashmir. On the occasion, a 25 member Kashmir Regional Committee of Kissan Tehrik was also formed with Syed Ghulam Hussain Naqashbandi as its President and Mohammad Afzal Parray as General Secretary. The conference adopted four resolutions stressing on transparency of NREGA, cutting down interest rate on agriculture loans, preservation of water bodies and high plan outlays for irrigation sector.
