| J&K Socialist Front organizes a public meeting | | | Early Times Report Jammu Sept 30 To commemorate the birth centenary celebrations of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, recently formed J&K Socialist Front organized a public meeting on Contemporary Relevance of Socialism under the presidentship of Balraj Puri. Dr Sunilam, who was leading an All India Lohia Yatra, in his address mentioned salient features of principles and the ideology of Dr. Lohia’s philosophy whose relevance was increasing day by day. He referred to the world wide economic crisis which was started in the leading capitalist, country of America, which exposed weaknesses of capitalism. ‘It was,’ he said, preceded by the collapse of Soviet Union. Thus socialism was the only model left, he concluded. Shiekh Abdul Rehman, president of the State Samajwadi Party, welcomed the guests from other states of India and said the BJP was no alternative to the ruling Congress party as both of them were patronized by the capitalists. The path shown by Dr Lohia and other socialist leaders was the only alternative, he added. Others who addressed the gathering inlcluded Dhanraj Bargotra, President Janata Dal (S), veteran Socialist Jagdish Gupta and Inder Mohinder Tar Singh, President of the J&K Socialist Front. In his presidential remarks, Balraj Puri advised socialists to try to bridge the growing gap between regions and religious groups in the State.
