Srinagar, October 1 Former Chief Minister and National Conference Chief Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah left for New Delhi today where he is scheduled to meet President of India to demand clemency for Mohd Afzal Guru, the parliament case convict. Stating this during an interview, Abdullah said "I will appeal President of India to pardon Afzal Guru who has been awarded death sentence". Claiming that Guru was not given full opportunity to defend himself during the course of trial, Abdullah said that growing public sentiment calls for Central Government intention to avoid any negative fall out of Guru's execution on the ongoing peace process. Expressing the belief that there is need to strengthen mutual trust, he said steps have to be taken to remove the element of alienation brewing among people of the state.
