Jammu, Oct 1: It may be victory for the government which has been exploring possibilities of voluntary retirement options for the sick PSUs, more than 3700 employees of the moribund State Road Transport Corporation today submitted their enmasse resignation after 37 days of strikes and protests.
The President of the SRTC employees union Shakeel Ahmed Kuchay confirmed to the Early Times that employees have tendered their resignation as the government was not able to resolve the salary and arrear impasse. He said, more than 3700 employees of the SRTC assembled at the SRTC yard in Srinagar from there they marched to the office of the Managing director to handover their resignations.
The employees were shouting slogans against the failure of the state government to release their monthly salaries pending for the lat five months.
President of the employees union Shakeel Ahmed Kuchay questioned the intentions of the state government and urged the government to accept their resignations without any delay and release the dues in favour of each employee who had submitted his resignation.
Here in Jammu the SRTC employees staged protest demonstration outside the office of the corporation at Bikram chowk and later took out a march in support of their demands.
Leader of the SRTC employees union Ashok Mehta blamed the government for the crisis situation and warned the state government against testing patience of the employees.
It may be mentioned that large number of employees of the SRTC are finding it difficult to make both ends meet in the absence of monthly salaries yet the state government is adamant on maintaining silence over the issue.
