Early Times Report
BANIHAL, OCTOBER 02 – Highlighting the traditional amity between various sections of the society prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir since ages, the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah Friday underscored the need for strengthening State’s secular fabrics. “You have stood the test of times and foiled the attempts of divisive forces aimed at wedging apart the society”, he said and asked the people to remain united and further tie the bonds of love and brotherhood.
Addressing a mammoth public gathering here after inaugurating Rs. 18 crore power grid station at Tethaar on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, Mr. Omar said that a section of political adventurists tried their best to play with the sentiments of people on the issue of Central University. “They wanted to divide the people in the name of regions and this has been their tradition”, he said and cautioned the people about such designs. “They want to divide you for political ends. Beware of their tactics and not to get carried away by hollow slogans”, he added.Omar said that his government promised the people for two Central Universities for the two divisions and achieved the goal without creating any noise. “This is my style of working and I will continue to carry on my agenda of equitable distribution of resources and equitable development of all areas irrespective of any consideration of region, religion, creed, caste or colour”, he maintained.
Omar said that faster development of hilly, rural and backward areas is on the top of development agenda of his government and every step would be taken to bring about revolution in the process of providing basic amenities in far-off areas and opening new vistas for economic development and employment creation.
Listing power sector one of the most important and crucial sectors in the development process, the Chief Minister said that his government is concentrating on two-pronged comprehensive power development policy. “At one hand we are focusing on indigenous hydro power generation and on the other our endeavour is to correct, upgrade and improve the distribution and transmission network”. He said the Baglihar Phase-II is likely to be formally launched within next 5 to 6 months to generate power and create jobs for hundreds of skilled and un-skilled youth. The Chief Minister said that coalition government is working on various aspects of creating job opportunities for youth in the State and private sector is being roped in to invest in a big way in Jammu and Kashmir. “This would not only give considerable fillip to the industrialization but open new avenues of economic activities directly and indirectly providing thousands of jobs to the job-seekers”, he said and added that government during the last eight month has provided over 12000 jobs to the youth and another over 40000 employments are in the pipeline. Omar said that he has taken up the issue of putting construction of Jammu-Banihal-Qazigund railway line on fast track with the Railway authorities. “I hope that the Banihal will be connected with Qazigund railway by the end of 2010 and the rail service from Baramulla to Banihal will commence for the benefit of lakhs of commuters. This will also boost up the economy of the area”, he said.
Referring to the drought conditions in Banihal area, the Chief Minister said that the concerned will be asked to assess the losses and formulate a proposal for the drought-hit areas. He also announced a Gujjar Hostel, a special R&B, PHE and Irrigation Sub-Division for Banihal and said that the demands put forth by the people in the welcome address will be actively considered. Omar said that the 50 MVA, 133/33 KV grid station alongwith transmission network inaugurated by him, will benefit over a lakh of inhabitants of scores of villages from Jawahar Tunnel to Ramsoo.
