Jammu, Oct 2: Gauging the popular mood over a series of recent developments, the top Congress leadership led by PCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz demonstrated a show of strength here on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti focused their rhetoric against China which has recently stirred hornet’s nest by offering a separate visa regime to the Kashmiri travelers. Soz and Union Minister of State in PMO Prithiviraj Chavan, who is also the AICC General Secretary incharge Jammu and Kashmir affairs, today led an impressive rally and addressed public meeting after offering tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Satwari Chowk. Describing the latest development as 'mischief' by the Chinese government, the mainstream Kashmiri leader urged Kashmiri travelers to refrain from travelling on travel documents separately stamped by the Chinese embassy. Soz said, "from time to time China indulges in mischief in Arunchal Pradesh and in Jammu and Kashmir". "Our stand is very clear, we will not accept the chinese stand over the issue and i believe Indian government has already taken up the issue with the Chinese government”, he added. Reports of the Chinese embassy in India issuing visas on separate sheets stapled to the passports of residents of Jammu and Kashmir, and not stamping the passport itself, has triggered much anger in Jammu. Congress member parliament from Jammu Madan Lal Sharma exhorted the party workers to spread this message of " boycott" of Chinese goods. "It is our duty that we should not allow even a single item from China to be brought to our homes, and no one should buy Chinese goods." This message was echoed by Mangat Ram, a former deputy chief minister of the state, in the presence of the Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan and state Congress unit chief Saifuddin Soz. "As he (Mahatama Gandhi) delivered us freedom by boycotting the British goods and taught us the lesson of self-reliance, we should teach Beijing a lesson by boycotting Chinese goods," Mangat Ram said.
