| Rajnath accuses UPA of weak China policy | | | Agencies Itanagar, Oct 4 : BJP president Rajnath Singh has accused the Centre of its wrong policies to tackle China’s pressure tactics being exerted on India with regard to its claim over the Arunachal territory. The ‘weak-kneed’ foreign policy of the Congress-led UPA government is responsible for China’s expansionist policy in the country, the BJP chief alleged during a press conference here yesterday. ''When China is building pressure through incursions 140 times last year and approximately 270 times this year besides air space incursions by helicopter to establish itself as a superpower, the Union government has regrettably termed it as a media hype,'' Mr Singh said. He said, besides rise in incursions and recent firing along the international border in Sikkim that left few Army jawans injured, China had repeatedly been putting forward its claim on the territory of Arunachal Pradesh. Claiming that the Chinese think-tank had advised Beijing to split India into 25 to 30 pieces, he urged the Centre to come out with a 'pro-active policy' to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country. ''While there was no Sino-India border dispute after the tripartite agreement was arrived at in 1914 in presence of representatives from India, China and Britain that led to demarcation of McMohan line, the border row has re-surfaced now because of the week policy of the Centre,'' he alleged, adding if China continues with such type of attitude, a 1962-like situation cannot be ruled out. Referring to the proposed bid by China to divert the flow of Brahmaputra, the BJP chief said the Centre should take up the issue with the world forum to force the Chinese government to sign a water treaty. ''The diversion of Brahmaputra, if executed, would affect Assam, Arunachal and other NE states as well as neighbouring Bangladesh,'' he added. On illegal influx of Bangladeshi nationals into the country, he said it posed a serious threat to North East, including Arunachal whose demography would be changed if New Delhi does not take up a strong policy to contain the menace. Referring to the sky-rocketing market prices of essential commodities, the BJP leader lambasted the Centre for failing to control the price rise despite its commitment given to the countrymen to do so as per its first 100 days’ agenda. ''Before coming to power by the Congress-led UPA in its second stint, the price index was 10.2 per cent and now it has swelled up to more than 15 per cent,'' he claimed, alleging that the country’s economy was getting out of control of the UPA government. On the election front, Rajnath claimed that the BJP, which has fielded 18 candidates, would play a decisive role in formation of the next government in the state. Mr Singh also addressed an election rally at Nirjuli in the evening.
