| R&B takes over DPS road project | | Much awaited snub to NBCC | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 4: In a significant move, Government has decided to link Residency road with Circular road to ease the pressure of traffic in the highly congested markets of the main city. The proposed link would connect the circular road near Prem Nagar by extending existing 330 mtr long road stretch from Shaheedi Chowk beyond the Delhi Public school. The information about the project was given by Minister for Public Works Mr. G M Saroori at a high level meeting convened to review the pace of ongoing up-gradation work taken up under City Road Development programme, beside left over work of laying of sewerage lines in the winter capital including that along Delhi Public school road stretch. The meeting was attended by District Development Commissioner M K Diwedi, Chief Engineer R&B Jammu and Engineers of R&B department, besides, representatives from Jammu Municipal Corporation, UEED and NBCC. The proposed link would help in decongesting traffic rush in main city markets, from Residency road, Ragunath bazaar up to Jewel Chowk and uptown areas from Indira Chowk to Shalimar Chowk. Minister said that official procedures would be soon initiated to ensure early clearance of the project by the government. Reviewing the pace of ongoing works, Minister issued the directions for taking over the Water Bound Macdemization (WBM) work of DPS road by R&B department as NBCC’s failed to meet the deadline set by the government for restoration of road by October 04. The Central Agency had been entrusted with lying of sewerage line in the area and balancing work up to WBM stage. However work on lying of sewerage line and construction of main holes has been almost completed by the Agency. Referring to the frequent complaints over delay in completion of work on the vital link, he asked the R&B authorities to ensure restoration of the road at the earliest. Listing the major projects to be taken up in the winter capital and its peripheries, Minister said that work on up gradation of Airport road from four- lane to six-lane would be started soon after the process of land acquisition is completed within two months. Similarly, final award for the land acquired for widening work of circular road from Gujjarnagar to DDC office will be settled within one month will be settled within one month, he added.
