| Gandhi Global Family organizes impressive function for Old Age home inmates | | Gandhi Jayanti celebrations | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 4: As a part of the week long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, an impressive function was organized by Gandhi Global Family, J&K State at old age home Ambphalla, here today.
Minister for Cooperatives, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma who was the chief guest on the occasion highlighted the teachings of Father of the Nation and spoke on his way of thinking and living. He said Gandhiji’s preaching find more relevance in today era and prove as a guiding force for the budding generations.
Saying that elders are the cream of the society and their words are a blessing in disguise for the young people, Dr. Manohar Lal asserted that the youth cannot succeed in any field without the support of their elders. He said Gandhiji was also of the view that a home is incomplete without the presence of old people. Their presence holds great significance in the day to day works and deeds. On the occasion, the Minister appealed to the young people to open their eyes and recognize the importance of serving elders and taking care of their day to day needs. He asked them as a homage to Gandhiji we should all pledge to follow his footprints and lead a contended and simple life.
Maintaining that the government is well aware of the problems of the senior citizens, the Minister said that several measures have been taken in varied fields to provide benefits to them at their doorsteps. He assured of all possible assistance to the inmates and also ensured to redress their grievances soon.
Padambhushan Mr. Balraj Puri who presided over the function also threw light on the life of the Father of the Nation.
Secretary Old Age Home, Mr.V. K. Bagotra briefed about the functioning of the elders home. He said at present 63 inmates are living in the home who are provided best of facilities and comfort. Noted Gandhian and President Gandhi Global Family, Mr. S. P. Verma asked the people to follow Gandhian teachings which are more relevant today. Inmates of the Old Age Home also spoke on the life and teachings of Gandhiji and as a tribute to him recited the favorite bhajans of the Father of the Nation.
