Rains make Jammu cooler by 5 degrees

Jammu, Oct 4: Heavy rains lashed today in many parts of the state including Jammu city and its periphery providing some relief to the people from the sultry conditions. The much needed showers were received in Jammu this afternoon, which caused traffic snarls as water logged at many places. The traffic police found it difficult to regulate the traffic at Bikram Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Jewel area and other places.
The rains came after a long period of dry spell which brings relief and cheers on the faces of the people. The metrological department had already forecasted the rains in first week of October. Suman, a housewife, said, that the rain has brought temperature down which remained constant at 35c and above for a long time. It was humid out there, but with fresh showers, the sultry condition has gone and the weather has become pleasant. Prerna, a student, studying in Ist, said that it gives me happiness when I saw rain, I came out of my home and start playing in rain with my other school friends. Though it was a holiday, we enjoyed it to fullest. It seems now that the weather conditions will change has after these much needed showers.
Inderjeet Singh, a private sector employee, said, though, it has brought succor to people, but it has also exposed the government machinery which failed to come up to the expectation of the people. Water logged at many places as the drains were choked and were over flowing caused many problems to the pedestrians and others. All the filth and dirt came on the roads causing inconvenience to the public.
There was no visibility of JMC people who actually are responsible for clearing the filth and other dirty things from road. The roads in the city, which were already dugged at many places, these rains caused more inconvenience to commuters. Power supply remained disrupted throughout the day in entire city.
Talking to Early Times, Mahinder Kumar of Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture University of Science and Technology (SKAUST), said that the temperature has got down by 50 c. It was predicted that rains will come, but the temperature may increase again.
The maximum temperature recorded today was 29.80 c and the minimum at 22.50 c as compared to yesterday maximum at 34.2 0 c and minimum at 21.30 c.
The total rainfall was recorded around 4.2mm in Jammu city. Moderate rainfall was also recorded at Kathua, Rajouri, Samba and other places.
