| Be ready for ESMA, Govt warns doctors | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 4: A day before the Junior Doctors embark on an indefinite strike demanding better perks and avenues, the government talked exceptionally tough as it warned of serious action including invoking Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) if the doctors failed to put their agitational course off. The warning comes a day after Medical Education Minister Rajinder Singh Chib had a meeting with the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather and assured that “all genuine demands of the doctors shall be addressed by the end of this month”. Despite this assurance as doctors refused to relent, a high level meeting was held here this evening in which the Medical Education Minister RS Chib and Health Minister Sham Lal gave their mind of tough action even as they said that all arrangements shall be put in place to keep the emergency services smooth. The meeting was also attended by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, IGP Jammu, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, SSP Jammu, Principal GMC, HODs and other senior officers of Health and Medical Department During the meeting the Ministers took a serious note of the decision taken by the Junior Doctors Association to go on a pre-mature strike while their demands were under active consideration by the government. In the meeting it was decided that all the necessary measures would be taken to deal with the situation. During the meeting it was decided that the emergency services in the various hospitals will be ensured and healthcare system will be maintained by mobilizing the services of staff and doctors from peripheral institutions. The Ministers said that the demands put forth by the doctors was being considered as discussed in the meeting held with Finance Minister, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather. Chib said that government had assured the doctors that their genuine demands would be met before Darbar Move and this was agreed upon by their association. He said that the government would not succumb to the pressure tactics of the association and stern action will be initiated against those trying to disturb the healthcare services adding that government will not hesitate to invoke ESMA. The Ministers said that emergency services in Government Medical College Hospital will be run at any cost and no one will be allowed to disrupt the health services. Junior Doctors of Government medical College Hospital Jammu who proposed to go on strike from tomorrow will be dealt with strictly in case they disrupt health services. The Ministers said that doctors are duty bound as well as legally bound to discharge their duties smoothly as per the agreement which they have entered into with the authorities at the time of their appointment
