| KP body alleges tampering of religions affairs in valley | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 6 The Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samiti (KPSS) today alleged that faith and history related to minority Pandit community are on sale in the Kashmir valley. The president of the KPSS Sanjay Kumar Tickoo in a statement here today alleged that the state government using connivance with mafia was involved to sell faith and history of pandits to balance their budgetary deficits. He said the KPSS has taken a serious note of the activities of the state police department who are in connivance with smugglers and temple mafia. The recent approach of the SHO Bijbehara is doubtful and needs to be looked, Mr Tickoo said in the statement. He claimed that just ten days back one 3 feet tall black stone idol of Mata Durga has been found from the fields of one Abdul Rehman at Kaniwan on the Khiram-Pahalgam Road, under the jurisdiction of police station Bijbehara. The idol is lying with the SHO Bijbehara, he said adding though the age of idol was not known, but apart from the religious importance to the Kashmiri Pandits, it is worth multi crores in the International market. Till date the SHO Bijbehara has not reported the recovery to anyone even to his seniors, he said and added media has also kept in dark. In addition to the present episode, in the recent past another 2 feet tall black stone idol of Lord Vishnu was found from the same fields, which was reported in the media and later handed over to Archeology Department. But, Mr Tickoo said, the KPSS have apprehension that the idol has been duplicated with black marble and the original one has been sold in the international market worth crores. He alleged that one person, a resident of Nai Basti, Anantnag, seems to be having hand in glow with some officers of the state government to facilitate selling these idols and antiques in the international market. The KPSS has requested Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to look into the matter and order an inquriy. He demanded the area from where the idol was recovered be put under seize as there is possibility that more idols can be found which could have religious as well as historical importance to the history of Kashmir and its people. He appealed to Mr Omar to ensure that the state government is serious to uphold religious respect towards the minorities.
