| Radio played significant and historical role since independence: Azad | | | Srinagar, October 01 Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has complimented Radio Kashmir for relaying of morning programmes directly from Srinagar to northern far-flung areas of Kashmir right up to the border and even across. While talking to Director Radio Kashmir Srinagar Mr. G. H. Zia here today, the Chief Minister said that Radio Kashmir has played a vital role since 1948 for dissemination of information to the people and becoming the voice of general masses particularly the poor people. He said “I am keenly listening public interest programmes particularly news and Serbeen and issue necessary instructions to the concerned departments for redress of grievances once these come into my notice through these programmes”. He said that all stations of the Radio working in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have responsible role to play in strengthening communal harmony and promote regional coherence. Mr. Azad pointed out that when he was Union Minister Incharge of Information and Broadcasting he ensured that maximum new Radio stations are opened in the far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that he has even recently taken up the matter with regard to expansion of transmission network for Doordarshan and Radio in the state. He was happy to note that effective measures are in progress for expansion of this network. He said that various HPTs and LPTs have been established in various parts of the state and there is requirement for establishing more such transmission stations. The Chief Minister said that Jammu, Leh, Kargil, Kathua and Poonch Radio stations are performing their responsibilities in a better manner. He said that time has come when Bhadarwah, Rajouri, Kupwara, Drass, Nowshera, Tishru and Khaltsi relay stations are also upgraded as production stations. He said that a network of Radio stations and relay stations needs to be opened in all nooks and corners of the state. The Chief Minister while giving felicitations to the people of Kupwara through his live audio message on Radio hoped that people of the area will take full benefit of these programmes to be relayed from Srinagar during morning hours. He said that it is the right time when people are observing fastings, Kupwara has been linked for morning transmission as well. He particularly referred to Mahatma Gandhi whose birth anniversary is observed on 2nd October and also the day is marked as centenary celebrations of satyagraha, this remarkable step has been taken by Radio Kashmir. Mr. Azad felicitated entire staff of Radio Kashmir and their production and engineering wing for this initiative. |
