| Kashmir fest to boost tourism , promote culture, craft: Rigzin Jora | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR October 7- The Minister for Tourism and Culture Mr. Nawang Ringzan Jora has stressed for positive reporting by the Media regarding Kashmir. He said that positive and realistic reporting will help in attracting more and more tourists to Kashmir. The Minister was addressing a press conference at TRC today. The Minister said that the Tourism Sector is backbone of the State’s economy and the coalition government is committed to give it a big boost. He said that the department of tourism is organizing two days Kashmir festival on 10th and 11th of October 2009 at Srinagar. He said that the purpose of organizing such festival is to widen the scope of tourism sector and make the tourists fully aware about the hospitality, art, beauty, culture, traditions and handicrafts of Kashmir. During the press conference it was informed that the festival will be inaugurated according to the age old tradition of the valley by the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah at Nandpora Nageen Srinagar on 10th of October and the Chief Minister will unveil the mast logo of Kashmir Festival and will visit Art and Crafts stalls there. The festival will comprise of flagging off trekking expedition to Nara Nang, inauguration of Kashmiri Food Festival, Boat Race, Music/ Craft Festival of Kashmir Haat, Kashmir Golf Festival at Kashmir Gold Club and Music concert/ presentations at Nishat. Traditional Musical Programmes and other festivities will be arranged at Gulmarg and Pahalgam. The Department of Tourism will hold the festival in association with J&K Information & Public Relations Department, Handicrafts Department, Cultural Academy and J&K Police. The Minister said that absolute peace is here and tourists can come and enjoy themselves any where in the State especially at Gulmarg, Aharbal, Pahalgam, Kokernag, and Srinagar. The Minister said that the festival this time has been arranged at a short notice and next time it will be organized in advance before the tourist season commence. The Minister desired that the visiting tourists may stay for a night at Verinag during their visit in the valley. The Minister also informed that more than 9 lakh tourists including 4 lakh Amaranth Yatries visited the valley so far this year and the number is expected to go beyond 10 lakhs by the end of current year. The Minister said that the tourist infrastructure has been restored and security forces have been shifted from various tourist places. The Minister informed that the carrying capacity for tourists is 24000 at Srinagar,10,000 at Pahalgam and 12000 at Gulmarg. The Minister assured the press that the tourism infrastructure would be upgraded in a better way. He said that the Department of Tourism is also holding a Sufi Music festival on Amir Khusroo on 18th and 19th of October for development of Tourism Sector in the State. He also informed that the Development Authorities constituted by the Government have to focus its attention on the development of the tourist places throughout the State. On the occasion, the Director of Information & Public Relations, Khawaja Farooq Ahmed Renzu and Director Tourism, Mr. Farooq Ahmed were also present.
