Omar visits his constituency , promises development , jobs, sops

GANDERBAL, OCTOBER 07 – Highlighting the major provisions of his government’s policy planning aimed at ameliorating the lot of people especially inhabitants of rural and far-off areas, the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah Wednesday said that socio-economic transformation of hitherto left underdeveloped areas will receive highest priority in the development process kick-started in the State by his government.
Speaking to the largely attended public meetings after inaugurating model village facilities at Watlar and Shalbug in district Ganderbal, Mr. Omar said that converting every village into a model village by way of upgrading and improving basic amenities and providing better education and healthcare, is his keen interest. “My vision is prosperous villages with plenty of economic activities and high profile of progress so that no one remains jobless and no household without required amenities” , he added.
Mr. Omar said that his government is determined to seek speedy upliftment of rural and backward areas to bring them at par with towns and cities and provide equal opportunities for growth and prosperity. “I am fully acquainted with the difficulties and problems of the inhabitants of rural areas and during my extensive touring especially to the backward, far-flung and cut-off areas as a public representative, I have fully analyzed the people’s aspirations for betterment and progress”, he said and added that all these aspects have been incorporated in the State’s development plans. “We are determined to achieve the development goals speedily”, he added.
The Chief Minister appreciated the Central Government especially UPA Chairperson, Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh for extending unprecedented financial and logistic support to his government to carry forward the ambitious plans for socio-economic upliftment and fast track development.
Mr. Omar referred to the grant of Rs. 639 crore by the Centre to the State for the construction of Mughal Road project raising the funding pattern between Centre and State from 50:50 to 100 percent fully financing by the Union Government. He said, “I had raised this issue with the Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson during my meetings, I express my gratitude to them for agreeing to my proposal”, he added, saying I am also grateful to these leaders for acceding to my other proposal with regard to advancing Rs. 356 crore for the compensation to Dal dwellers so that they are moved out of the water body. "This grant is in addition to Rs. 298 crore already sanctioned by the Union Government for the conservation of this famous water body”, he maintained.
The Chief Minister referring to the development of district Ganderbal said that various projects of greater economic importance are being worked out for the district. Some of the projects in the pipeline are include about Rs. 500 crore power project likely to be launched by April, 2010 and 200-bedded modern hospital to cater to the healthcare needs of the people of the district. “I have special responsibility to keep close rapport with the people of Ganderbal as their representative in the Legislative Assembly. However, for being the Chief Minister of the State I have to give equal attention to all areas, as such, I am not in a position to frequently visit this area. This does not mean that I am away from you, your development and welfare is always in my mind like those of other areas and you will get the due share in the development strategy”, he asserted and assured the people that their just demands for progress and development will be vehemently advocated by him in the capacity of the MLA of the area.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister for Rural Development, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar said that a comprehensive rural development programme aimed at all round development of the villages and upgradation of facilities in the sectors of road communication, public health engineering, power distribution, health and education has been launched to achieve the desired results.
