| J&K may have OBC Advisory Board | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct7 On the suggestion of the PCC Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz, the state Government has decided to constitute for the first time, Advisory Board for other Backward Classes (OBC), party sources said adding that the formal announcement is likely to made shortly. Government sources said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, had decided to set up Kisan Board to look after the welfare of the farmers. Saif-ud-Din soz has informed the Chief Minister that there were 25 communities falling in the category of other backward classes and the OBC constituted 20 per cent of the total population. This called for setting up an advisory Board for the OBC that would look after their welfare. At one stage there used to be a Board communities falling in other than Scheduled Castes but later it had to be dissolved after the demand for setting up separate Boards for Gujjars,Paharis and other ethnic groups resulted in number of advisory Boards. The Government also has decided to appoint chairmen of various public sector corporations and Boards. In all there are about 20 such corporations and Boards that are headless at present. Party sources said that the Government plans to appoint some members of the Legislative Council as chairmen of the Boards and corporations because the Council share in the ministry was quite meager. Indications are that non-legislators too may also be appointed as heads of corporations and Boards. One report said that since two main communities, Pandits and Sikhs, had no representation in the council of ministers some prominent leaders of these two communities may be appointed as heads of a couple of Boards and corporations.
