Early Times Report
Srinagar October,07
CPI(M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam,Mohammad Yousef Tarigami has urged the government to take contingency measures to arrange packing material and transportation for export of horticulture produce to the outside fruit markets as the fruit growers of the valley were confronted with non availability of the same.
In a statement issued here today, CPI leader said that the local fruit markets are lacking the latest technology and updated facilities which has a direct impact on the marketing of the local horticulture produce thereby causing losses to the growers due to delayed and untimely marketing of the fruit in local as well as outside mandies.
He said that horticulture sector has unfortunately been victim of negligent and apathetic policies of successive governments and also prone to natural calamities, which has left adverse effects on states’ economy and also those of the growers.” Non-availability of petrochemicals, fungicides, pesticides and fertilizers remains the most concerned area of the growers next to poor marketing and transportation facilities” Tarigami maintained and added that the government will have to frame a well evolved and far reaching policy to promote and develop this vital sector of the state which was directly or indirectly guaranteeing livelihood to our millions of people.
He suggested the government to reactivate the Horticulture Produce and Marketing Corporation to come to the rescue of the growers for providing cardboard boxes and other packing material to the growers at this juncture. He also said that measures be taken to maintain proper tariff for ferrying of the fruits out side the state.
He urged the government to equip the fruit markets across the state with all required facilities including grading, packing ,cold storage, banking and communication so that the growers are provided with options for timely sale of their produce
