Panjbakhtar Temple Land Scam takes U-Turn

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct-07--In a much publicized controversy over the land scam of Panjbakhtar Temple Jammu, Principal Sessions Judge Samba Suresh Kumar Sharma, who was appointed by the High Court for the management of Mandir, in his status report submitted before the High Court, has made a sensational disclosure about theft of Rs.80 lakhs and huge quantity of gold and silver from the room of late Mahant Parshuram Giri which.
After considering the status report Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar of Jammu and Kashmir High Court today asked registry to consider the status report as CMP and issued notice to the respondents and directed to list the case in the next week.
Principal Sessions Judge Samba Suresh Sharma in the capacity of Receiver said that it is of utmost importance, to trace the stolen property including cash and precious items, restore the same to the deity and heritage of the state and also to restore the confidence of the people and assuage the heart feelings of the devotees and the public at large. A detailed investigation by high ranking police officer with high integrity, is required to go into the fact as to who has committed the act of sacrilege in committing the theft of the property of temple.
Over the controversy regarding appointment of Mahant, the Sessions Judge in his status report said that both Mahant Panjbakhtar Giri and Mahant Prem Giri claim to be chelas of late Mahant Parshuram Giri who died on February 23, 2007 leaving behind no evidence of appointing a chela. While the former was installed by a committee of handful citizen, the later was installed by Shri Panch Dashnami Juna Akhara. However, there is no record in the temple to show that either of them was named chela by the late Mahant Parshuram Giri. In fact as revealed by most of the devotees of the temple that late Mahant had nominated no chela during his life-time. It is surprising that soon after his installation the so called Mahant Panjbakhtar Giri executed the power of attorney in respect of 20 Kanals of prime land of the temple premises to one Ashok Jogi empowering him to dispose off the same. This raised another question was he appointed to disintegrate the temple and its property which has been protected and well kept with the offering of devotees for centuries?
The Principal Sessions Judge further submitted in his status report that in the inventory prepared by Mahant Panjbakhtar Giri, none of precious gold or silver items or other antique artifacts was shown to have been recovered from the room of the Mahant or the temple. However, besides silver Mukat weighing 12.350 kg few other precious items which were recovered by him had not been mentioned in the inventory furnished by Mahant Panjbakhtar Giri and only insignificant had been mentioned in inventory so furnished by him. This reflects the tainted intention in furnishing the list, omitting the few precious left in the temple premises. JNF
