BGSBU takes lead, 9 students suspended for ragging juniors

Jammu, Oct 7: Probably first time in the history of educational institution management of Jammu and Kashmir, 9 students were today suspended by the Ghulam Shah Badshah University on the charges of ragging their juniors.
Taking lead in implementing UGC’s strictures anti ragging, Ghulam Shah Badshah University authority’s suspended 9 students after two groups of Freshers filed separate complaint that they were subjected to ragging by their seniors.
A varsity official said that under directions of the Vice Chancellor Masud Choudhary, the University is committed to ensure ragging free environment for the students at the Campus and all possible measures to avoid incidence of ragging have been beefed up said the Dean Students of the University while welcoming the fresh students. The parents and the new students expressed their satisfaction over the comfortable arrangements made by the University in the hostel and their respective departments
The first year engineering student of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri has alleged ragging and physically assault by his seniors on October 5
The Anti Ragging Squad constituted by the University took cognizance of the incidence of raging and recommended immediate suspension of the students involved in ragging from their hostels in accordance with the regulation of the University Grants Commission UGC. According to an official handout issued by BGSBU, the varsity administration suspended nine students involved in the ragging from their hostels after receiving complaints of two separate ragging incidents that took place in the campus on October 6. Meanwhile the hostel management and the University Security has been put on alert.
Earlier, Prikshit Shagotra, a first-year student of B.Tech in BGSBU, Rajouri in a press conference here today alleged that he was physically assaulted by his seniors in a playground on October 5, in the name of ragging.
Narrating his woe, Shagotra said that On October 5, when he was taking a walk outside the hostel, three students requested me for playing cricket to which he agreed. Later, ten to fifteen students also joined them and started harassing me in the name of introduction. he was even made to dance nude in front of them. When he refused to their dictates of removing my underwear, they thrashed me severely and I fell unconscious
He disclosed that he would lodge an FIR against the students who have allegedly harassed and thrashed him in public view.
The BGSB University authority confirmed that the varsity has suspended nine students from their hostels till pending inquiry and serious instruction have been passed to avoid such sort of incident in future.
