| Rajveer elected President NSUI JU Unit | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 8- Rajveer Singh Manhas was today declared elected as President NSUI Jammu University Unit by defeating his nearest rival Nilangan Sharma with a huge margin of 131 votes. Manhas polled 213 votes while Sharma secured only 82 votes. The much awaited election for NSUI Jammu University Unit President was held in the University Campus today under the supervision of Arjun Singh Pathania, Election Commissioner and Raj Kumar Arya Returning Officer. It is for the first time in the history of any student organization that the routine nomination system has been replaced by the electoral process. Three candidates namely Rajveer Singh Manhas, Nilangan Sharma and Varinder Singh were in the fray for the prestigious NSUI Jammu University President’s post. A total of 337 votes were polled out of which 17 were declared null and void by the election authorities. Rajvir Singh got 213 votes, followed by Nilangan Sharma with 82 votes and Varinder Singh got 25 votes. After compiling the results Raj Kumar Arya, returning officer announced Rajveer Singh Manhas as the winner of the election. On hearing the news of declaration of results the supporters of Rajveer started dancing on the beats of drums and distributed sweets among the students and public. Rajveer was profusely garlanded and a victory procession was taken out covering the whole campus by the supporters. Rajveer Singh thanked the Jammu University students for giving him a chance to work for the betterment of student community. He also expressed full faith in the leadership of Rashid Choudhary State President NSUI and Hibi Eden National resident NSUI. Later, a victory procession was taken out by the supporters of Rajveer Singh from the University in open vehicles which culminated at PCC headquarters where the newly elected president was received by the NSUI President. At Congress Bhawan, a celebration and felicitation function was organized to honour the newly elected president. The function was presided over by Dharampal Sharma senior Vice President PCC while Mula Ram ex-minister and senior PCC leader was the chief guest on the occasion. Mula Ram congratulated the newly elected President of Jammu University and appreciated the innovative idea of ensuring internal democracy in the organization introduced by State President Rashid Choudhary. He advised the NSUI leadership to repeat this practice in all educational institution of the state.
