| Locals, VHP activists protest over youth's death | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 8 Locals and VHP activists today protested against custodial death of a youth and staged demonstrations near New Plot here alleging that the victim, who was arrested in connection with an abduction case, died due to police torture.
Over 50 protesters led by VHP state unit president Ramakant Dubey halted the traffic movement in the area, and demanded a magisterial probe into the matter.
They alleged that some policemen of Ram Munshi Bagh Police station at Srinagar tortured the victim, Rajneesh Sharma, in the custody.
They accused the police of having taken into custody Rajneesh instead of his brother Pawan Sharma, who was wanted in alleged abduction of a girl from Srinagar a week earlier.
The police had yesterday said that Sharma, who was detained on September 30 from his Sarwal residence, had allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging himself inside a police lock-up.
