| SHO attached to DPL Srinagar | | Rajneesh spent huge amounts on calls to Amina | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Even as the 17-year-old girl Amina, who lived in a houseboat in Dal Lake interior, is still untraced, Police have unearthed her “deep-rooted liaison” with Rajneesh Sharma of Sarwal, Jammu, who was found dead in custody of Police Station Rambagh here on Tuesday last. Meanwhile, additional Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Mohammad Akbar Ganai, has started an inquiry into the circumstances leading to Rajnessh Kumar’s custodial death under section 176 of Cr PC and SSP Srinagar has placed two Police officials under suspension and also attached SHO Ram Munshi Bagh to District Police Lines (DPL) Srinagar. Authoritative sources revealed to Early Times that pending a magisterial inquiry into the custodial death of Rajneesh Kumar Sharma, SSP Srinagar, Javed Riyaz Bedar, today ordered attachment of SHO Ram Munshi Bagh, Inspector Mushtaq Ahmed, to DPL Srinagar. Sources said that action was still under consideration against incharge of Police Division Nehru Park, SI Ghulam Jeelani, who had got Rajneesh arrested from Jammu on September 30th but failed to notice his impersonation as the detainee had identified himself as Pawan Kumar Sharma, name of his brother. Sources said that SSP Srinagar had already placed under suspension Munshi of PS Ram Munshi Bagh, Head Constable Mohammad Sabir, and the guard on duty, Constable Ghulam Hassan, for lapses in Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) supposed to be adopted during custody and remand period of the detainees. Rajneesh, who reportedly identified himself as Pawan Kumar Sharma, was picked up and brought to Srinagar by a party of PS Ram Munshi Bagh, headed by SI Jeelani, following registration of a missing report filed by the family of a houseboat resident, Mohammad Yusuf Marazi, at Police Division Nehru Park on August 21st last. It was subsequently converted into an FIR at PS Ram Munshi Bagh on August 25th. Marazi family had complained that their 16-year-old daughter, Amina, had gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Police later learned that she had either been kidnapped or had willfully eloped with a tenant from Jammu, namely Rajneesh Sharma. Police detained Rajneesh (as Pawan Kumar Sharma, brother of the accused) at PS Ram Munshi Bagh and got his remand twice from a judicial magistrate for detention and custodial interrogation that, it believed, could lead to the arrest of the accused (Rajneesh) and recovery of the minor girl. Even as SHO Ram Munshi Bagh, Inspector Mushtaq, received telephonic calls from Jammu which made it clear that the detainee was in fact the accused Rajneesh and not his brother Pawan, Police did not take any action. Even a relative of the detainee, working with an English daily in Jammu, had made it an open secret that Srinagar Police had arrested Rajneesh as Pawan Kumar and whisked him away to the Valley. According to informed sources, Police learned during “lackadaisical investigation” during the full month of September that Rajneesh had been frequently visiting Srinagar and invariably living at the same houseboat for the last over one year. It also learned from Call Detail Record of his mobile phone that he had been constantly in touch with Amina and had spent huge amount of Rs 65,000 on recharging his SIM card from March to August 2009. It had, thus, become amply clear that the duo had established a deep-rooted liaison and the family was not unaware of the whole story. Police had also learned that Rajneesh had been visiting Srinagar for collecting orders as he used to arrange fabricated aluminum doors, windows and partitions for his customers.
