President visits Jammu border positions, interacts with soldiers
Rukhsana's praised for her bravery

Jammu, Oct 9: President of India and Supreme Commander of the Defence Forces, Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, today visited forward areas in Jammu and Kashmir and addressed the troops at Rajouri.
She was accompanied by the state Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. General Deepak Kapoor, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen BS Jaswal, GoC-in-Chief Northern Command and Lt. Gen RK Swamy, GoC 16Corps .
Earlier, the President visited troops in the forward areas, where she was briefed on the prevailing security situation. She later addressed the troops at the Raina Stadium, Rajouri and lauded the role of the Indian Army in maintaining peace and tranquility in the region. She also praised the Army for their endeavours under Sadbhavana for improving the civil infrastructure and in other socio economic spheres for the well being and advancement of the local populace.
The President urged the troops to be vigilant and maintain a high degree of preparedness for meeting any eventualities along the border areas. She expressed her full satisfaction on the exemplary work being done by all ranks towards tackling terrorism and ensuring normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. 'Every citizen of India was proud of you all', she added. She also appreciated the role played by the Indian Army in providing valuable help to the civilians in the far-flung areas of the state by rendering medical aid, education and other civic amenities besides their strenuous military duties.
In her address President conveyed her gratitude to the families of all ranks who have made the supreme sacrifice in their line of duty for the defence of the nation. She also acknowledged the contribution of the families of Army personnel for providing the much needed support and motivation to the troops in discharging their duties under such difficult conditions.
The President also attended the 'SAINIK BHOJ' with the troops, where she interacted with all ranks and once again lauded their consistent efforts in bringing peace and normalcy in the region. She also met the Gujjar girl of Shahdara Sharief, Rajouri, Rukhsana and her brother, who had overpowered, disarmed and gunned down a dreaded Pakistani militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba during a guerrilla raid on her home last month. She appreciated Rukhsana's bravery and expressed hope that the young girl would become a source of inspiration and role model for hundreds of such women who are being victimsed and harrassed by armed terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir.
