| Anganwari workers threaten stir | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 11- Accusing the state government for its adamant and indifferent attitude towards Anganwadi workers and helpers, the Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association (AWWA) has decided to start agitation in support of their demands. Addressing media persons here today, Swarna Choudhary, president of the association said that it is matter of serious concern that successive State Governments have not increased their salary for the last 23 years and in this unprecedented price hike, Anganwadi workers and helpers face difficulties to survive. She demanded hike in salary Rs 5000 to Anganwadi Workers and Rs 3000 to helpers, release of pending salary of last 4-5 months, time bound supply of nutrition and promotion of Anganwadi workers at Supervisors immediately by amending rules at par with Himachal and Orissa Government. “Since the Government failed to do justice with the Anganwadi Workers and helpers, we have decided to launch agitation in order to get justice and their due rights”, said Lakshman Ravinder Singh senior leader of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh. He informed that Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttrakhand, Madhya Pardesh, Gujrat, Delhi, Chattisgarh and other states have increased the salary of workers and helpers, but J&K Government has done nothing for the last 23 years. He demanded from the Government to take up the demands of workers on priority basis so that workers could be delivered justice at the earliest. Singh said that on November 8 we are going to hold one day conference of Anaganwadi workers where we will announce future course of action. *****
