| Local Bodies to go hi-tech | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 11- Following reports of delay in granting building permission the government has assured the local bodies of financial support for adopting transparent system which was possible only if they went for complete automation in a time bound manner. Official sources said that the Government has initiated this measure after it received a lot of complaints against the local bodies alleging delays in or denial of building permission in some cases, condo- nation of violation of building bylaws in some other cases. Other complaints, according to these sources, pertained to lack of sanitation and cleanliness within the municipal areas and weak system of redressal of grievances. Official sources said that the Government had received a complaint from some industrial units against one municipal committee alleging harassment in the name of charging of lorry adda fee from them even when they were not connected with the use of such lorry adda. It is in this context that the Government has suggested to the local bodies to establish the IT based better and smoother system of e-governance. Once the system was in operation in the local bodies their working will become transparent leaving no scope for malpractices and favoritism. Another direction the state Government has issued to these local bodies, especially the Srinagar and Jammu Municipal Corporations was that they should generate additional resources which could be used for providing better civil amenities to the people because the state Government is already faced with financial difficulties with the result it cannot provided 100 per cent fiscal support to these local bodies. These local bodies have been asked to work out schedule for carrying out a facelift of the two capital cities and towns so that visitors felt attracted to the state. While the Jammu city needed a facelift because of the heavy rush of pilgrims to Mata Vaishnov Devi the city of Srinagar and other resorts required major civic amenities as the summer capital has started attracting tourists from various states in the country and from abroad. What needs to be done was to create an atmosphere which would be conducive for the teams from Bollywood to resume film shooting in the valley.
