| De-link Kashmir issue from terrorism: Mufti | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 11- Asserting that the resolution of vexed Kashmir issue was must for bringing peace in the sub-continent, chief patron Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has said that the peace process between India and Pakistan must not be held hostage to developments within the country or at the international level. Addressing a seminar on `Self Rule’ organized by the party at Anantnag, Sayed said despite stress and strain and nature of hostility and acrimony existing between the two countries since partition the peace process witnessed a considerable progress in the recent past giving a ray of hope to the people of the region. However, the recent developments has cast its shadow over the dialogue process which has a direct impact on the situation within Jammu and Kashmir, where people have invested much in the peace process and stabilization of relationship between the two neighbouring countries, he added. “Pushing the dialogue process into the cold storage will not only prove counterproductive but it will at the same time belie the hopes of the millions in the two countries rooting for peace and friendship”, he said. He added that the hostile relations between Indian and Pakistan are directly linked to the worsening situation in other parts of the sub-continent including Afghanistan and accusations and counteraccusations between the leadership of the two countries has a potential of reviving the scenario of active hostility which will only add to the miseries of people living in this part of the world. “Resolving Kashmir would at this juncture prove of immense help in reducing levels of tension elsewhere”, he added. Once again cautioning about the fragility of peace in absence of sincere and purposeful measures the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir said that it was high time when the leadership of India and Pakistan understand the importance of resolution of Kashmir issue by peaceful means. "Peace process is a historical necessity for India and Pakistan", he said and suggested that India and Pakistan have to jointly face the menace of terrorism through joint mechanism. "Instead of indulge in blame game there is need to move forward on the road of peace", he suggested. He said that his party has presented the Self-Rule document and asserted that proposal presented by his party is the workable and viable solution of the Kashmir problem. He further said that Self-Rule document is prepared by incorporating wishes and aspirations of all sections of the society and it will remove social, economic, political and administration injustice with regions and sub-regions. In his key note address, former deputy chief minister and senior PDP leader, Muzaffar Hussain Baig said the Self Rule document is a multidimensional resolution package taking care of not only the external and internal dimensions but the geographical dimensions of the problem as well. He said the self-rule offers a multi-layer solution involving constitutional, political, social, trade and economic aspects of the problem with stress on political and economic empowerment of the state's people and not its government. He said it also extends to other parts of Kashmir accommodating the real aspirations of the people, in all the regions of the state, up to the maximum. The seminar was also addressed by party president Mehbooba Mufti, noted journalist and peace activist Madhu Kishwar, Advocate Javeed Ahmed, Advocate Muneer Shawl and Advocate Nazir Ahmed.
