BJP QUESTIONS ABDULLAHS STAND ON GURU’S CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
10/2/2006 11:04:17 PM
Jammu,October 2
State Unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party on Monday reacted sharply to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers and NC Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah’s sudden U-turn over the issue of dealing with dreaded militants.
Responding to DrAbdullahs statement that he will meet President Dr APJ AbdulKalam to grant clemency to Mohd Afzal Guru, Vice President of the BJP and spokesperson Prof Hari Om asked DrAbdullah to recall his recent bitter attack on the NDA government for relasing Maulana Masood Azhar in return for the release of the jijacked persons on board IC-814 and refrain from making common cause with the separatists.
He urged DrAbdullah to allow the law to take its own course,He said it is indeed unfortutnate that he and others of his ilk like the state Chief Minister and the PDP President are putting pressure on the president of the India to let the accused in the Parlimanrt attack case go scot free.
Prof Hari Om said that DrAbdullahs plea that a section of the media had declared the accused ‘not guilty’ and hence he be granted clemency, is tantamount to contempt for the judiciary. He regretted that being a former Chief Minister and sitting MP in the Rajya Sabha, he is indulging n the game of the one-upman ship for pretty political gains and going beyond the confines of the duties he is constitutionally bound to perform.
The BJP Spokesman reminded Dr Farooq Abdullah that it was he who was the first Chief Minister in the country who adopted and implemented POTA to tackle the menace of terrorism and restore law and order in the state and asked him to explain the reasons why has he taken a U-turn and extended full support to the chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who has approached the Prime Minister to seek clemency for the accused on the ground that the proposed execution would send a wrong signal across the valley.
