| Rupees 18.44 crore being utilised for development work in Gurez near LOC | | | Early Times Report Gurez , Oct 13 : An amount of Rupees 18.44 crore was being utilised on different development works in border town of Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) from three sides. The town, which was the main target of troops from across the border before India and Pakistan agreed for ceasefire in 2003 on borders, remained cut off from the rest of the state for winter months due to 10 to 40 feet of snowfall. Officials said today work on three bridges in the border town was going on and will be completed next year.
They said this information was given to Jammu and Kashmir Roads and Buildings (R&B) Minister G M Saroori during his tour here yesterday.
The Minister was informed that Rs 10.68 crore are been incurred under NABARD for completion of different schemes while Rs 7.76 crore are being expended under BADP. Mr Saroori, first to inspect the development work in the area, said all inaccessible areas of Dawar, Gurez and Tangdhar would get better road connectivity. These areas remained cut off during winter.
He said the development programmes launched by the government are being implemented in the remote areas, including Tulail, Dawar, Gurez, Tangdhar and Teetwal, aimed to benefit every section of the society.
The Minister said the policy of the government is to see physical achievement on ground rather than believing on paper work.
He directed the officers and engineers to ensure that the benefit of the government schemes would go to deserving people, adding that a a massive development plans are underway for the economically backward people living in border areas. Mr Saroori said Government is aware about the problems of the local people and assured them that all resources of the government have been put in place service to mitigate their problems.
Reaffirming the resolve of the government to connect every part of the inaccessible area of the state with each through road network, Mr Saroori said a hefty sum has been earmarked for construction of new roads besides upgradation and renovation of damaged infrastructure in these border areas. The Minister said the Centre is keen to see all round development in the state, adding that personal efforts of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad are yielding better results.
Mr Saroori said Mr Azad, by his personal efforts, succeeded in getting approved several prestigious projects for Jammu and Kashmir during his tenure as Chief Minister of the state.
He said the Congress high command has always worked for restoration of peace and normalcy in the state, adding the resumption of dialogue between India and Pakistan was one of its achievements.
He said the Congress believes in reconciliation to find out an amicable solution of the Kashmir issue. He said the people of the state, particularly those living along the LOC have seen turbulent past and now want a peaceful atmosphere.
