| 12 Kms long Zojila tunnel on the anvil | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 13 – Union Minister of State for Surface Transport Mr. R.P.N Singh today said that a massive road communication programme has been initiated all over the country to provide better road connectivity to the people. He said about 7000 road length would be constructed in the first year of UPA government.
The Union Minister was interacting with the participant delegates from within and outside the state first day of 3rd All India Editors Conference in 3rdsession at SKICC, Srinagar.
The Union Minister said for all weather road connection with Ladakh, tenders have been issued for engagement of consultants for preparing feasibility reports for the construction of 12 kilometer length tunnel at Zojila to connect the Ladakh region with Valley throughout the year. He said under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan in J&K, the work is on progress on seven road projects comprising of 976.90 kilometers length at an estimated cost of Rs. 2669.13 crores. Out of which Rs. 1074.69 crores have been spent so far on these projects and will be completed within stipulated time.
Under North-South corridor road length of 112.75 kilometers, four major bridges and one flyover in Jammu and Kashmir would also be completed by the end of March next year also, the Union Minister added.
