| New Solar mission policy to be announced on Nov. 14: Dr. Farooq | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, October 13- Gurez valley has been fully covered by solar lights even as the State has a good potential of generating wind power. This was disclosed by Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah here today while interacting with the participant delegates from within and outside the State on the first day of the 3rd All India Editors Conference which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah here this morning. The Union Minister said that J&K has highest potential for small and micro hydro power after Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. He said 246 SHPs sites of 25 MWs capacity each aggregating to 1411 MW have been identified. He said Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation has been entrusted to formulate proposals of such power projects in the State adding that 111.83 MWs have so far been installed in the State.
Regarding Ladakh region, Dr. Abdullah said that his Ministry is preparing a development plant for renewable energy for Ladakh region. He said the entire region has been divided into 11 clusters keeping in view the expected load and potential for SHP sites.
Dr. Abdullah said under PMRP 1000 micro hydro projects have been taken up of which Ladakh has 10, Kashmir region 550 and Jammu region 350 projects.
He announced that new solar mission policy will be released on November 14, 2009, the birthday of Pt. Jawaher Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.
