| Pilgrims against VIP quota in J&K selected | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 13 : Pilgrims against the VIP quota have been selected from Jammu and Kashmir, where first flight with Hajjis will leave for Saudia Arabia on October 20. More than 7,500 pilgrims from the state will undertake Haj-2009 from the state, State Haj Officer (SHO) Abdul Salam said here.
He said there were around 150 vacant seats after adjusting those who were selected during draw of lots after Central Haj Committee (CHC) allotted additional 1,500 seats.
Dr Salam said the SHC had received a letter from CHC to select intending pilgrims against MP and VIP quota.
''We have selected the pilgrims who have been informed,'' he said.
The Haj officer said after adjusting those who were selected through draw of lots after the CHC alloted additional seats, there were still around 150 vacant seats left as those selected could not deposit their Passports.
''We have received applications from those left out intending pilgrims who have passports but were not selected through draw of lots,'' he said.
Dr Salam said, ''We have taken up the matter with the CHC and decision will be taken very soon.'' He said the first flight with pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir will leave for Jeddah on October 20 and this process will continue till the first week of November.
After receiving flight schedule, the pilgrims will be informed about their departure, he said.
However, he said, this time there is some change in the schedule if a flight is cancelled due to some unavailable circumstances.
Earlier, if a flight was cancelled, it was affecting those who were scheduled to leave on third day.
Now, he said, if a flight is cancelled, the pilgrims of that flight will be accommodated the next day and the process of rescheduling will continue till fourth day. However, those booked for the fifth day will have to leave on the last day of all scheduled flights from the state, he added.
