| Race in Congress and NC for securing Board posts | | | Early Times Reprot Jammu, October 14 Number Congress leaders have started vying with one another for securing the post of chairman of the various boards and others alike organizations. Boards are headless and the coordination committee of the National Conference and the Congress has decided to appoint chairmen of all the Boards and corporations. Party sources today disclosed that the Congress has already staked claim for the chairmen's seat of the Gujjar and Scheduled caste Boards. The sources said that as far as the Gujjar Board Chief is concerned the Congress wanted Ch.Mohd.Aslam to head this Board who is considered as the front runner not for being a Gujjar and Pahari leader but also for his disgruntle that still si simmering on. He, however, rejected the offer as he had felt insulted when his name for induction in the cabinet had been dropped at the last moment.Sources said that Lal Mohd. Sabir, Bashir Naaz, Ch. Shah Mohd., all belonging to the Congress,now have thrown their hats in this rat race for securing the chairman's post and have been appeasing their mentors in the party. As far as the Board for Paharis is concerned there is a hot race among several Congress legislators and fomer MLAs for the chairman's post.Party sources said that for time being Kafil-ul-Rehman and Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari are in the race. Till date the National Conference leadership is under pressure from party leaders belonging to Kupwara and Poonch-Rajouri belt that incumbent should be the leader belonging to either of these two remote areas. As far as the Board for Scheduled caste is concerned there are over half a dozen congress leaders in the r ace for the chairman's post. Among the serious contenders are Swaran Lata, a former MLA, H.R. Bhagat, K.C.Bhagat and Suman Bhagat. Reports said that even a former Minister,Mulla R am too is int erested to bagging the chairman's post. Sources confirmed that the NC-Congress coordination Committee has agreed to set up Kissan Board and a Board for Other Backward classes(OBC).Sources said that the PCC Chief,Saif-ud-Din Soz had been instrumental for the decision on setting up Board on OBC. Sources said that the process for establishment of these t wo Boards will be started shortly. The Government will prepare a blueprint for the establishment and the financial r equirement which would be submitted for the cabinet approval. Indications are that within next three months the exercise on setting up two new Boards and for filling the posts of chairman of other Boar ds and corporations will be complete. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
