| Balwant Thakur nominated to International Committee | | | New Delhi, Oct 14- Natrang Director Balwant Thakur has been nominated to the International screening committee, responsible for selection of International plays being featured in the forthcoming International Theatre Festival being held in the union capital next year. There are over two hundred entries from all over the world which will be evaluated and assessed by the committee and the best entries will be selected for the India International Theatre Festival, Delhi. Responding on this new assignment, Balwant Thakur said that this is an opportune moment for him to see and analyze the latest trend of theatre in whole of the world. In this rapidly changing world, amazing experiments in theatre are being made and this exposure is certainly going to open new horizons for us. Balwant Thakur has just returned from his International tour where he had gone with his group Natrang to perform the most celebrated Dogri play Ghumayee in six International Theatre festivals held in Russia, Germany and Poland. But this new assignment has taken him to the all-time heights which will have its visible impact on the working of Natrang. Recipient of the highest Indian honor for direction in theatre i.e., Singed Natak Akademi Award, Balwant Thakur is also the Sanskriti Awardees’ for Direction in theatre which is given to one director in the country in twelve years. A grantee of The Ford Foundation USA, Balwant Thakur has the distinction of having given his presentations in the prestigious Universities like University of Oxford and University of Rome on the kind of theatre he has evolved in the past twenty-five years. In addition he has presented his shows in London, Berlin, Frankfurt (Germany), Yugoslav, Belgrade, Moscow, Bangkok, Singapore, Malaysia, UAE, Denmark, Turkey and Dhaka. Natrang is now getting several invitations to perform in Europe and South East Asia and this way the theatre of J&K will scale yet newer heights.
