10/14/2009 11:08:21 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 14: Expressing optimism about the future of cross Loc trade in J&K, Zulfikar Abbasi, president, chamber of commerce and industry, POK, said that there is every chance of improvement in cross LOC trade between the divided part of J&K.
He said that till now, around Rs 20 crore’s trade has been done through LOC, and bulk of trade was done via Poonch-Rawalkote and Chakkan-Da-Bagh routes against, Muzzafarabad –Uri route.
He demanded opening of Chambb-Palanwala and Naushera-Khureta for trade as these are the shortest routes.
He also stresses need for telecommunication between two parts, banking facilities, permission for visiting CC people to POK and vice-versa at regular intervals and meeting at LOC once a month between two counterparts. He said, govt’s works should be implemented into action as promised by both governments.
Our trade is legal as MOU (Memorandum of understanding) is sighed between government of India and Pakistan.
There are certain elements who want to give bad name to our trade or want it to get closed, which we will not allow. Government must plug the loop holes if any exists.
By banking facility, transparency in transaction will be made possible for both sides. There has been no annual review of the trade by the government so far and no meeting after 3 months between two sides as promised by the government. We are abiding the rules and regulations of the MOU and the list of items has not exceeds 21.
Ceasefire between two countries has also favoured trade between two parts as it would have not been possible to carry out trade with ceasefire. Our trade in no circumstance will affect trade at Wagah border, as our volume is very small. Others who were present include Raja Mohd Jameel, former president, CCI (POK), Om Prakash Gupta, president CCI (Jammu), Anil Suri, former head FOI (Jammu), Rajinder Motial and others.
