| Dy CM reviews dev works in Jammu city | | | Early Times Report Jammu , Oct 15: An amount of Rs. 132 crore is being spent for improving basic civic amenities in the city of temples, Jammu during the current financial year through Municipal Corporation, Jammu. This includes Rs. 50 core approved under Basic Services for Urban Population (BSUP) for construction of residential units for slum dwellers in various areas of the Jammu city including EWS housing colonies at Bhagwati Nagar and Rajiv Nagar.
This was revealed at a high level meeting held here today to review pace of various ongoing development works in Jammu city through various executing agencies like UEED, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Jammu Development Authority and Urban Development Agency.
The Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand presided.
The Minister for Revenue, and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla, Minister for R&B, G. M. Saroori, MLAs, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta and Bharat Bushan were also present.
Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Abdul Hamid, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Mubarak Singh, Chief Engineer UEED, Ashwani Sharma, Vice Chairman, JDA, G. A. Qureshi, Director Local Bodies Kashmir, Mohammad Abass and concerned officers also attended the meeting.
It was revealed that Rs. 34.77 crore pilot Sewerage Treatment Plant, Talab Tilloo is nearing completion and has been put on trial run. The plant after collecting sewerage from about 5800 houses in Talab Tiloo and Bhagwati Nagar areas would be treated in this 10 MLD sewerage treatment plant. About 1000 houses have already ben connected with the plant, 98% of which has already been completed. Two more sewerage treatment plants including 27 MLD plant and 30 MLD Plant will also be constructed by NBCC and ERA respectively to treat sewerage of Jammu city on scientific basis.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister instructed the UEED, which is nodal agency for sewerage treatment plan, to formulate DPR, for scientific disposal of sewerage in the missing parts of the Jammu city on war footing. He also called for preparation of DPRs for laterals and utilities in old Jammu city adding that concerned legislators should be associated with he project formulation to ensure close supervision, monitoring and quality control of works. These project reports should be designed to meet the future requirements of the fast expanding population of the city, Tara Chand added. He instructed the officers to keep the local MLAs well abreast with various development programmes and required allocation of funds in various constituencies.
Tara Chand said that total transparency and accountability will be ensured while identifying slum beneficiaries adding that lists of such slum dwellers would be published in newspapers for general information of the people in this connection. He asked the Commissioner Secretary, Housing to conduct physical inspection of various ongoing schemes once in a week at both Srinagar and Jammu cities to ensure speedy completion of works. He also directed for immediate restoration of various dug up roads in various parts of Jammu city.
Responding favorably to the demands of the concerned MLAs, Deputy Chief Minister directed the Municipal Commissioner, Jammu to install state-of-Art modern High Mast Lights in various leftover heritage and religious places adding that at least 6 such lights should be installed in and around Bawa Wali Mata Temple in Bahu Fort and one in the premises of revered Peer Baba, Satwari, near Jammu Airport. He also ordered to install these lights in all the main chowks in Jammu city for convenience of the general public.
Tara Chand also ordered constitution of a committee to restore allegedly encroached state and JDA land in Bawa Wali Mata temple, Bahu Fort.
Revenue Minister called for separate sewerage treatment plants for various localities in extended areas of Gandhi Nagar. He also urged for expediting regularization of various housing colonies in Jammu city..
