| POK refugees hold protest demonstration | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 15 To show solidarity with their demands and protest against the callousness of the successive governments, Jammu and Kashmir PoK Refugees of 1947, 1965, 1971 today staged a protest rally. Hundreds of refugees drawn from different parts of Jammu including men, women and children assembled at Gole Market where in they staged protest rally Led by Capt Yudhvir singh, the refugees were demanding permanent settlement, immediate implementation of Wadhawa Committee report, compensation and relief to both West Pak and non camp refugees, grant of Backward class status to all the DPs of 1947, 1965 and 1971, domicile right, compensation on property left in PoK under sec 300A of India constitution, allotment of land to Displaced Persons as per cabinet order 578C, reservation to DPs’ youth in Medical, professional institutions and others. The protesting refugees alleged that the Government was not sincere in solving the refugees’ problems. He said these refugees are living in abject poverty due to callousness of the successive state and central governments and in case the Government still continues its rigid stand the refugees will be forced to intensify the struggle. The refugee community is educationally, economically, socially and politically most backward but yet no reservation has been provided to the refugee community, Singh said while alleging discrimination towards this community. The refugees leaders appealed the government to take immediate steps to mitigate the 62 years long sufferings of PoK DPs. Later, Refugees felicitated veteran Journalist Balraj Puri of getting National Integration Award. The refugees later took rally from Gole Market to Residence of Minister for Revenue and Relief where they dispersed after talking to Minister on phone as he was not present there in his house at that moment.
