| DPRs on new projects should be made public; Asgar | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct15- Cautioning government against playing with the lives of residents of erstwhile Doda district by brazenly ignoring ecological aspects in so-called developmental activities, senior leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sayeed Asgar Ali, MLC today stressed on the need of taking compensatory steps before starting work on the new hydro-electric projects in Kishtwar. Addressing media persons here today, PDP leader regretted that ecological aspects were not taken into consideration while constructing and commissioning much publicized Dul Hasti and Baglihar hydro-electric projects in the erstwhile Doda district. “Problems of the residents of this belt have been increasing with every passing day as these two projects are becoming bane for them”, he said while listing affects of these two hydro electric projects on the socio-economic conditions of the residents. He pointed out that sinking of roads has become a routine and due to seepage of water in the rocks, this hilly region has become unsafe. “Agony of the people of erstwhile Doda district can be gauged from the fact that residents of this belt have been bearing 12 to 16 hours power curtailments while as the power from these two projects is supplied to the whole of the country”, he regretted and pointed out that Government of India has been earning a whopping amount of Rs three crore per day from these projects but the locals have been struggling for drinking water and power. He also expressed his concern over ignoring erstwhile Doda district especially Kishtwar area in tourism. “Kishtwar has huge tourism potential but nothing concrete has been done so far to explore the same”, he regretted.
