| Gas tanker turns turtle near Jawahar Tunnel | | | Early Times Report Banihal/Qazigund, October 16 : The failure of Traffic Police in managing the traffic after a Gas Tanker turned turtle near Jawahar Tunnel led to total gridlock from either side disrupting the movement of the vehicles at the crucial point for over two hours. Eyewitnesses said that a tanker bearing registration no HR 55 G 8662 on its way from Jammu to Srinagar turned turtle near Glass tower -Titanic View on Kashmir side of the tunnel. They say said that people traveling in other vehicles get panic as soon after the mishap Gas tanker started leaking leading to mess. The Traffic Police on duty also failed to regulate the traffic from either which led to total jam. A team of police lead by SHO Qazigund reached on the spot and rescued the driver of the tanker. Driver of the Tanker identified as Qadir Khan son of Shafi Khan resident of Rajouri was critically injured in the mishap. He has been shifted to SKIMS for treatment where doctors termed his condition as critical. The police also stopped the traffic as a precautionary measure after they failed to plug the leakage of the Tanker. Finally, authorities at HPCL Pampore were contacted who agreed to send a team of experts to plug the leakage. However, till late evening the team was yet to arrive. About five thousand vehicles were stranded on either side of the tunnel.
