| 1410 kgs of Bhuki seized at toll post Lakhanpur | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 18: On the intervening night of 16 and 17 October, 2009, the alert staff of the excise toll post Lakhanpur under the supervision of the dy. Excise commissioner BA Safar along with excise and taxation officer namely PS Chib and Mohd Alyas Khan and Inspector Adarsh Kumar seized 1410 kgs of popy straw powder (bhuki) concealed beneath the apple boxes from vehicle bearing regd. No. JK03A-7324. The contraband was being smuggled in the truck carrying 513 boxes of apple consigned by M/s Tariq Fruit Co. appreciated the alertness shown by the team in detecting the contraband which was being smuggled in a well planed way particularly during the fruit season as there remains huge rush of traffic during this season. The vehicle along with seized contraband was then handed over to the inspector excise range Kathua for proceeding further in the case under NDPS act. It is worthwhile to mention here that besides their duties of charging toll tax the sleuths of excise department are also keeping a check on the movement of smugglers as they had earlier also seized a huge quantity of bhuki and willow clefts in the month of August and September, 2009.
The dy. Commissioner toll post Lakhanpur has warned the smugglers/ tax evaders to desist from such kind of illegal activities.
