| 1966 student martyrs remembered | | Fasting JJSF activists offered juice after 3-day’s fast | | Early Tinmes Report Jammu, Oct 18- The 3-day fast observed by the activists of Jammu Joint Students’ Federation (JJSF), to pay homage to the great souls killed in police firing in 1966, concluded here today by performing Hawan Pujan. Pushvinder Singh, State President JJSF and PS Pathania, Registrar Jammu University offered juice to the fasting students Sahil Choudhary, Devinder Singh, Lovely Gupta and Sanjay Sharma. Addressing the students, Prof. Pathania exhorted the youth and students to use different fora like seminars, workshops and conferences to highlight their grievances. “If the students are able to properly convey the message, healthy atmosphere will automatically project the genuineness of things,” he said. Prof. Sham Lal Gupta, Principal GGM Science College and Prof. Hemla Aggarwal Principal SPMR Commerce College speaking on the occasion said the path shown by these great sons of soil should be taken ahead in right perspective and students and youth must contribute their might for the development of better environment in the society. While elaborating on the importance of the event, Pushvinder said JJSF, which is a pioneer and familiar name, had always stood by the times to highlight the genuine grievances of the people especially the students. While recalling the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs, Pushvinder exhorted the young generation to participate in the war launched by JJSF to get rid of suppressive, oppressive and discriminatory policies of Kashmiri rulers. He called upon the students to continue their struggle against the discrimination. He said that the plight of the Jammu region and the student community in particular was miserable and the Kashmiri leadership was ignoring the people of Jammu region and not attending to their problems. He also expressed his concern over the criminal silence of the government over the issue of Junior Doctors strike and urged the government to consider the genuine demands of the striking doctors as the patients are badly suffering due to the strike. Partap Singh Jamwal Vice-President of the Front demanded 50 per cent reservation in government jobs for the unemployed youth of Jammu region.
