| Ravna explodes as sun sets | | Dussehra denotes win of truth over falsehood: Azad | | JAMMU, OCTOBER 02 Vijay Dashmi was celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety and enthusiasm in Jammu as elsewhere in the country. At Mini Stadium, Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) S. K. Sinha was the Chief Guest and Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad was present at the main Dussehra celebrations held with pomp and gaiety in traditional spirit. Thousands of people had assembled in the stadium to witness the celebrations. Amid grand display of fire works, the mega effigies of Ravna, Kumbkaran and Meghnath were put to flame as the Monday sun called it a day, which exploded with a big bang marking the triumph of good over bad. This was preceded by Poojas performed by Governor and others present on the occasion before the sun set. Among others Former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Member Parliament Mr. Madan Lal Sharma, Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation Ch. Manmohan Singh, former Union Minister of State for Defence Mr. Chaman Lal Gupta, MLA Mr. Ajay Sadhotra, MLA Mr. Javed Rana, Principal Secretary to Governor Dr. Arun Kumar, Principal Secretary ARI Mrs. Sonali Kumar, President and Secretary of Dharamath Trust Th. Diwakar Singh and Ms. Vijay Gandotra, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Mr. Hirdesh Kumar Singh, SSP Jammu Mr. Mukesh Singh, Joint Director of Information Mr. S. K. Sharma and other senior officers of police and civil administration were also present. Greeting the gathering, the Governor said that this day reminds of the victory of truth over evil and emphasize that truth ultimately triumphs. Gen Sinha urged the people to emulate the spirit of sacrifice and take inspiration from Ramayana which signifies the essence of high values and universal brotherhood. The Governor hoped that Vijay Dashmi is being celebrated by all irrespective of caste, creed and colour. He hoped that such festivals would be celebrated in true spirit of our composite culture. Chief Minister Mr. Azad in an informal chat with media persons said that Dussehra signifies the essence of truth and emphasizes that virtue always triumphs over the evils. He said Dussehra coincides with Gandhi Jayanti, birthday of the father of nation who all his life stood for peace and non-violence. Extending Dussehra greetings to people, the Health Minister prayed for peace in the state, saying that in this age of hatred and violence many Ravana has emerged and heavy responsibility has caste upon the people to free the society from fetch evil elements. Dr. Abdullah, while speaking on the occasion, prayed for peace, prosperity and amity in the state. Prof. Gupta also spoke on the occasion and extended his greetings to the people. Earlier, Shoba Yatra was taken out in the city of temples which went round through various bazaars and culminated in the Parade Ground. The main attraction was the chariot of Lord Rama taken out in procession from historic Shri Raghunath Ji temple. This was followed by various Jankies as per the past practice dating back to the times of Maharajas.
