| Altaf interacts with KCCI members | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 19 –Minister for Forests and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad has said that the coalition Government is committed taking all required measures to protect and preserve the famous water bodies like Dal Nigeen, Manasbal and Wullar lakes. He said the conservation of these water bodies will guarantee sustained tourism in the State also. The Minister said this while chairing a meeting of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here today. The meeting held threadbare discussion on ecology and environment, plantation of walnut trees, revival of forests, clearance of Industrial Units from Pollution Control Board, Waste Disposal Management etc. The Minister said that the project for the development of Wullar Lake has already been submitted to Central Government for approval and sanction of funds which is expected to be cleared soon. He said Government is starting walnut plantation programme in the State. He stressed for the use of imported timber so that the load on forests is minimized. He asked the Pollution Control Board to issue No Demand Certificates in favour of the unit holders within three weeks. Mr. Altaf gave patient hearing to all the matters confronting the KCCI and assured that the Government will take all measures to do away with the problems being faced by them. He also assured the participants that the matter regarding promotion of Shahtoos production will be taken up with the Centre. The meeting, among others was attended by Chief Conservator of Forest, Kashmir, Mr. Shafat Ahmad, Chairman, Pollution Control Board, Mr. Vinod Ranjan and President, KCCI, Mr. Nazir Ahmad and other senior officers of the Forest Department.
