| Shabir feels pathetic plight of ware house , directs for corrective measures | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, OCTOBER 19 – Minister of State for Consumer affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan has directed the Vice Chairman Jammu Development Authority to expedite the process of identification of suitable alternate site for shifting of CAPD godowns from Warehouse. During the visit to CAPD godowns at Warehouse, Jammu today, the Minister directed the CAPD authorities to ensure proper management and preservation of foodgrains in order to avoid storage losses. He said that proper steps should be taken for preventing the storage losses due to pests etc as it has been observed that in the country the rate of food grain destruction during storage is very high.
Taking a serious note of the poor maintenance of roads in warehouse area, Mr. Khan asked the concerned departments to level the road. He called for undertaking immediate repairs of the road in front of the godown to avoid waterlogging at the entrance. Regarding the material lying in one of the godowns owned by JAKFED at Warehouse, the Minister directed the VC JDA and Director CAPD to take up the matter with JAKFED to find out a feasible solution for disposal of the material. Mr. Khan asked the CAPD officers to ensure that the supply of essential commodities to the far-flung areas is despatched before the onset of winters. He said that adequate stocks of ration should be despatched to the far-flung areas like Dacchan, Marwah etc so that people of these areas do not feel any inconvenience. The Minister asked the officers to show discernible results on ground by making their functioning more transparent and accountable. He asked them to conduct field visits frequently to closely monitor the functioning at the ground. He asked them to ensure the trucks carrying CAPD foodgrains to different places reach their destinations, adding that pilferage of foodgrains is checked at all cost.
The Minister was accompanied by VC JDA, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mr. Mubarak Singh, Director CAPD Mr. H. K. Sharma and other officers of concerned departments.
